Inspiring women.

Beryl Markham first Kenyan woman to fly.

Did you know the first woman to fly was from Kenya? Right! yes.
I was pleasantly surprised as well. Her name Beryl Markham, she was born in London, her father moved the family to Kenya in 1904 when Beryl was 2. Beryl was a pioneer from the get go, she was the first female horse trainer and later pioneering aviatrix.  Apparently Isak Dinesen (Out of Africa author). was an acquaintance,  I find this fascinating because I can picture, colonial Kenya through the film out of Africa, and imagine how life must have been for Beryl.

She also wrote a memoir West with the Night, which was released in 1983, forty years after its publication.

"A life has to move or it stagnates. Even this life, I think. Even tomorrow ought to not resemble every yesterday." - Beryl Markham

As millennials  we can do even more. Go out there and follow your dreams there is opportunity every where. Life is about taking chances. I completely understand that small voice that tells you, you might fail, but what if you Fly!

www.sarahandjoy.com up and running

We are open!

Great news! after months and months of agonizing about whether I should launch my site with a few items. I finally took the plunge and launched www.sarahandjoy.com.

www.sarahandjoy.com

I am a perfectionist with serious OCD issues. Lol. Everything has to be just right. But then I realised after reading this very encouraging poster, that it's okay. To start exactly where you are. I am self funded, so I can't move as fast as I would like to. But I am doing my best with what I have. This is just the beginning there are great things to follow.

Starry Night

This painting is very experimental I wanted to create a starry night. Have you ever soon a trillion stars?. I remember a trip to Masai Mara the night sky was so beautiful. It's located far away in the middle of now where there is no light pollution the night sky is just breathtaking.

Colorful days Fabric designs

I had so much fun designing fabrics inspired by Masai jewelry for my next collection, here is a sneak peek.

Colorful days

I absolutely like this technique paint pouring, it gives me so much freedom to experiment (play) with color I just went crazy and did a bunch. It has a glossy finish too!

Happy new 2016!

A year of new beginnings and amazing color.
The year of execution. This year I hope to act, and not spend hours and hours on the web researching.
I am going to start with a series of 100 days of color. This is going to be fun!
